Choose a zone before starting a collection run. The character takes eggs from that zone and delivers them to your base. The speed setting changes how fast the character moves during the run.

Eggs open automatically once they are ready. Their hatch timers still need to finish, so an egg that is counting down will not open immediately. You can enable index reward collection alongside hatching as new entries become available.
